What happens when fifteen men play at the ladies’ event at the World Series of Poker 2011?

Legally speaking, the organizers couldn’t prevent the men from playing. However, strictly speaking, many women US poker players believe that the men should not have been permitted to play and even go so far as to claim that it was a crazy and thoughtless thing to indulge in such an act.

Man Makes Final Table at WSOP Ladies Event

Sunday was host to one of the more bizarre occurrences at this years World Series of Poker when Jonathan Epstein, a man, made the final table at the $1,000 buy-in Ladies Event in Las Vegas. Although a few men typically register for the female-specific poker tournament each year, this is the first time that one has entered the last table. Much to the annoyance of many female players at the WSOP, gender-discrimination laws prevent tournament organizers from barring men from the Ladies Event.

In order to make the final table, Epstein had to battle through 1,041 players in addition to some harsh treatment from the rail.

Ivey Favorite for WSOP Main Event

WSOP 2011 will kick off this weekend. There will be some notable events on the way, but ultimately the focus will be the Main Event starting on July 7. After the final table is set for the Main Event, there will be a break. Then the final table will resume in November.

The sports betting site Bet365 is among the first to release the odds for the winner of the Main Event. Right at the top is the popular favorite Phil Ivey with odds of 66/1. Next are three players with odds of 80/1. They are Gus Hansen, Patrik Antonius and Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu will be thrilled to be placed ahead of rival poker professional Phil Hellmuth who has odds of 150/1.

WSOP – The Richest Sporting Event in the World

Every year thousands of players play in WSOP events in Vegas in hopes of cashing in on their poker skills (and luck). While calling it a sporting event may be a bit of a stretch, one thing is for sure there is no shortage of cash at the World Series of Poker.

With all the developments in online poker recently, it will be interesting to see the turnout at the 2011 WSOP. On April 15th, the US DOJ seized control of Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars domain names. The sites eventually reached an agreement for release of their domains, but they were forced to pull out of the US market. Since then, many other domains and bank accounts have been seized by the US DOJ.
