Isildur1 Reveals Himself as Viktor Blom, May Face Swedish Tax Man

If you’ve been following this poker story, you’ll know that Isildur1 has been identified as Swedish poker player Viktor Blom.

Blom made the revelation at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas during his heads-up duel with Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier. However, now it seems that revealing identity could cost him more than just his anonymity.

As far as high stakes goes – they don’t come more high stakes than Isildur1. The 20-year-old began playing poker when he was 14 and is most known for his aggressive play as well as winning and losing millions. He famously turned a $2,000 bankroll into $2 million in just weeks.

Isildur1′s rise to poker fame drew attention in 2009 when he took part in ten of the largest pots in online poker history, making headlines with his multi-million games against Phil Ivey, Tom “durrrr” Dwan, and Brian Hastings on Full Tilt Poker. He recently signed with PokerStars, which he claims is why he revealed his identity.

“I think a lot of people have known for a long time who I really am, so it doesn’t make a big difference to me,” Blom said in a press release. “But when I signed for PokerStars I felt like it was the right time to reveal my identity.”

However, with his veil down, now comes the fallout. According to calculations made by a Swedish newspaper known as The Local, Blom, who now resides in London, could owe $149 million in Swedish taxes should his online poker winnings get audited. In the heavily-taxed land of Sweden, poker pros are taxed 30% on each winning pot rather than an end of year tally which would also calculate the losses.

“Internet poker is something we’re looking into and I know this poker player, but I can’t comment on whether we’ve opened a case,” tax agency spokesperson Erik Boman told the publication.

The Swedish Tax Authority known as Skatteverket, refused to comment on whether they were looking into Blom’s winnings.
